Worry is good because it is a mental fire drill where we identify dangers and make plans for handling them should they occur. the problem is that worry triggers anxiety and anxiety triggers more worry until we get trapped in worrywarting - obsessive worrying. The solution is not to stop worrying, but to learn to &quot;worry smart&quot;, to do the work of worry and then realize that you are riled up and take action to soothe yourself back to balance. 

It is very difficult to deal with worrywarting on the fly. You have to be prepared. One way is to create a Worry Place where you go and worry on purpose, and where you go when you catch yourself worrying. This helps to get worry under control by using a place.  Eventually, going to that place will trigger worrying and leaving will help yu to leave your worries there.

Another technique when you catch yourself worrying is to stop and ask yourself, what would a good friend ay to me about this. Friends are supportive and kind, they tell us to lighten us or to look at it in a different way, or they may distract us, or suggest a fun activity that can chase the worry away.</description>
